Track Systems

Track systems are 230 V track collections on which luminaires are mounted and repositioned, with tracks, connectors, luminaires and accessories chosen from one system. This category holds 136 items, split into single-phase and three-phase track systems, from TK Lighting and Zambelis. Luminaires use E27, GU10 or G9 lampholders or integrated LEDs, stated power runs from 3 to 42 W and the IP rating is IP20. A track system suits kitchens, living rooms, galleries and shops where light needs to be aimed at particular spots.

Not sure which system to choose, or how much track you need?

How to choose a track lighting system

Single-phase or three-phase track

This is the first decision, because every other part depends on it. On a single-phase track all luminaires switch on and off together, which is enough at home when the track lights one area. A three-phase track lets you split luminaires into three groups and control each separately, so it is more often chosen for shops, galleries and large open spaces. Single-phase and three-phase luminaires and connectors do not fit each other, so always check which track a part is made for.

Connecting to the mains

230 V track systems are wired directly to the mains, so unlike magnetic systems they need no separate low-voltage power supply. Luminaires take power through the track itself, and you can move them without rewiring. Tracks, connectors and luminaires from different manufacturers and systems are not interchangeable, so take the whole set from one system. As with any fixed lighting, the electrical connection should be made by a qualified electrician.

Bulb or integrated LED

Many luminaires in this category have a lampholder: E27, GU10 or G9, with some GU10 MINI MR11, GX53 and ES111. For these, the bulb you choose sets the colour temperature and output, and you can change it later. Luminaires with an integrated LED have a stated colour temperature of 3000 K, 4000 K, 6500 K or adjustable CCT, and where luminous flux is listed it runs from 580 to 4210 lm. Living spaces are usually lit at 2700–3000 K and work areas at 4000 K.

Finish and materials

Track luminaires are mostly black or white, with brown, gold and beige models too. Bodies are made of plastic, steel and aluminium, and some shades use fabric or glass. Match the finish to the track: a black track stands out against a white ceiling, a white one almost disappears into it. Products are listed as IP20, so these systems are for dry rooms, not bathrooms or outdoor areas.

Track typeLuminaire controlTypical use
Single-phaseAll luminaires switch togetherKitchen, living room, hallway
Three-phaseThree separately controlled groupsShop, gallery, office, large open space

Choose by number of phases: single-phase track systems or three-phase track systems. For a low-voltage alternative see magnetic track. You can plan the track layout in the configurator.

What a complete system needs

  • a rail or a base — as long as the line
  • luminaires or modules — as much light as the room needs
  • joints where the line turns or branches
  • a feed, plus a driver for the low-voltage systems
  • end caps at the ends

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase track?

On a single-phase track all luminaires are controlled together, while a three-phase track lets you split them into three groups switched separately. Single-phase is usually enough at home; three-phase is more common in shops and large spaces. Luminaires and connectors for the two are not interchangeable.

Does a track lighting system need a power supply?

No, a 230 V track system is wired directly to the mains, so no separate power supply is needed. A low-voltage supply is only required for 48 V and 24 V magnetic systems, not for track systems.

What bulbs fit track system luminaires?

It depends on the lampholder: in this category E27, GU10 and G9 are the most common, with some GU10 MINI MR11, GX53 and ES111. The lampholder is stated in the product description, and the LED bulb you choose sets the colour temperature and brightness.

Can I use luminaires from different brands on one track?

No, keep to one system. Tracks, connectors and luminaires from different manufacturers or systems do not fit one another, and a single-phase luminaire will not fit a three-phase track. Every product description names the system it belongs to.

Can a track system be installed in a damp room?

Products in this category are rated IP20, so they are meant for dry rooms only. For outdoor use choose an IP65 system – the catalogue has an outdoor track system IP65 for that purpose.
